War At Sea 1939-1945 (1986) By John Hamilton
War at Sea is instead a collection of 176 full-colour paintings of naval combat coupled with a readable and well-organised text. Hamilton is a preeminent maritime artist whose work is as worthwhile for its evocative atmosphere of sea warfare as for its superb technical accuracy. The text is more than the usual filler found in many large-format books, and instead is a reasonably detailed yet entertaining overview of the war's major seaborne actions. This is supplemented by 43 imaginative maps, most useful for lay strategists.
