Uniforms of the Peninsular War 1807-1814 (1978) By Philip J. Haythornthwaite

Waged from 1807 until 1814, the war in the Iberian Peninsula was termed by Napoleon a "Spanish ulcer", hastening his downfall by draining resources and manpower to an insupportable degree. Yet it was much more than just another Napoleonic campaign. It was the first "patriotic" war, waged by the Spanish and Portuguese civilian population, introducing the term "guerrilla"; it re-established the reputation of the British army; and it produced, in the Duke of Wellington, arguably the greatest military commander in history.
