Author (an Edinburgh Dentist and Doctor) was SMO of the 1st Airborn division and was captured after the battle of Oosterbeek/Arnhem then escaped. After the battle he spent a fortnight in a cupboard in order to evade capture and eventually made he way back across the Rhine with help of the Dutch resistance.
