Reluctant Nation: Australia and The Allied Defeat Of Japan 1942-45 (1992) By David Day

The second part of a major study of Australian defence and foreign policy during WWII which began with 'The Great Betrayal'. Author argues that the war was not as great a turning point in our history as most people think. Australia emerged from it anxious to strengthen its discredited defence links with Britain, abandoning wartime hopes for self-reliance. The author has also written 'Menzies and Churchill at War'. Includes foreword by Paul Keating, and notes, bibliography and index.
