Escape From Crete (2004) By Charles Jager

A true story of friendship in time of war...young Australian diggers Charlie Jager and Benny Travers escape from the Germans after the fall of Crete in 1941. It is a daring deed - but the real heroes are the Greek villagers who risk their lives to hide them.

Charlie Jager and Ben Travers were two young Australians among the thousands of Allied soldiers who were captured by the Germans in Crete after ferocious fighting. They broke through barbed wire, escaped into the mountains and were hidden by Greek villagers who risked death and smuggled them to the mainland. From there they joined a band of escaped prisoners, pirated a boat and sailed back to North Africa.
