It is unfortunate that in the estimation of all too many followers of World War One aviation, the greatness of an aerial combat Ace is directly proportional to the number of victories with which the flyer is credited. Raymond Brooks is typical of such unsung American heroes.
 
Brooks was an American World War I flying ace of the United States Army Air Service credited with shooting down multiple enemy aircraft. Among his most prominent achievements was when he single-handedly took on a squadron of German-flown Fokker planes officially downing two of them in one aerial battle piloting his Smith IV Spad XIII. This Includes an introduction to Brooks' aviation career, lots of captioned photographs of Brooks, his aircraft, and his comrades; rolls of honour for the 2nd Pursuit Group and 22nd Aero Squadron; and plans of his Nieuport 24, SPAD VII, SPAD XIII, and SE5A.
