An account of the history of the most notorious of the Nazi camps, Auschwitz, from the date of appointment if its commandant, SS Hauptsturmf Rudolf Hoess on 30th April 1940 to the as yet unbuilt camp, through the arrival of its first prisoners on 14th June 1940 to its liberation on 27th January 1945, based on interviews with surviving perpetrators and victims as well as records recently available after the fall of the iron curtain.
